About the series
In 1967, DC Comics launched a deliberate spoof of the standard superhero team with The Inferior Five, a series that ran for ten issues and turned incompetence into a punchline. Writer E. Nelson Bridwell, joined by Don Segall and Howie Post, crafted the misadventures of a group whose very names—Awkwardman, Blimp, Dumb Bunny, Merryman, and White Feather—announced their lack of prowess. With art by Mike Sekowsky and Win Mortimer, the book poked affectionate fun at the genre’s conventions, offering a lighthearted counterpoint to the earnest heroes of the Silver Age. It remains a quirky footnote in DC’s history, a reminder that even the most bumbling characters can earn a few issues in the spotlight.
