About the series
In the mid-1980s, Eclipse Comics launched The New DNAgents, a 17-issue series that reimagined the teen superhero team as genetically engineered young adults navigating a world that created them as living weapons. Written primarily by Mark Evanier and Catherine (Cat) Yronwode, with artwork from Mitch Schauer, Chuck Patton, and a young Erik Larsen, the book followed the five members—Amber, Rainbow, Sham, Surge, and Tank—as they struggled with their engineered origins and the moral complexities of their powers. This series stands as a thoughtful, character-driven exploration of identity and responsibility within the independent comics boom of the era.
