About the series
A gritty, five-issue crime comic from Star Publications' early 1950s heyday, The Outlaws chronicled the violent exploits of bank robbers, gangsters, and fugitives in a world with few happy endings. The series was defined by the raw, unpolished artwork of Gerald Altman and the prolific Iger Shop, whose shadowy figures and stark action scenes gave the lawbreakers a grim, noir authenticity. Though short-lived, The Outlaws stands as a stark artifact of pre-Comics Code crime comics, unflinching in its portrayal of a life outside the law.
