The Wallflower

From 2004 to 2010, Random House published The Wallflower, a 22-issue manga series that blends horror comedy with a twisted Cinderella story. The premise follows a reclusive, horror-obsessed young woman who is tasked by her landlady with transforming into a proper lady—or else face a life of debt. Best known for writer and artist Tomoko Hayakawa's darkly humorous art and character designs, the series became a cult favorite for its unique take on shojo tropes and its deadpan, gothic comedy.
