About the series
Marvel’s Thunderbolts (1997–2003) began as a clever twist on the superhero team concept: villains masquerading as heroes, only to find themselves wrestling with the roles they’d adopted. Over 81 issues, writers Fabian Nicieza, Kurt Busiek, and John Arcudi, alongside artists like Mark Bagley and Patrick Zircher, charted the uneasy evolution of characters such as Songbird, Atlas, and Karla Sofen. The series carved out a unique space in Marvel’s late-’90s landscape by questioning redemption, loyalty, and whether a bad actor can truly become good.
