About the series
In the early 1990s, Fantagraphics brought the gritty, hardboiled crime saga Torpedo to English-speaking readers, originally created by writer E. Sánchez Abulí and artist Jordi Bernet. Set in 1930s New York, the series follows the brutal, foul-mouthed hitman Luca Torelli as he navigates a world of double-crosses and casual violence. Abulí’s terse, noir-infused scripts are perfectly matched by Bernet’s lush, expressive black-and-white artwork, which captures both the period’s sleaze and its shadowy glamour. A landmark of European crime comics, Torpedo remains a stark, unflinching classic for its raw storytelling and masterful visual style.
