Tumbleweeds

Tom K. Ryan’s Tumbleweeds (1970–1977) is a six-issue Gold Medal Books series that transplants the classic Western into a world of absurdist, gag-driven humor. Ryan, who wrote and drew every installment, populated his frontier with a cast of hapless cowpokes, scheming varmints, and a notably unlucky sheriff, all rendered in a clean, expressive style. Though brief, the series stands as a distinct, creator-owned take on the funny-page Western, blending slapstick with a dry, dust-blown wit.
