About the series
In the late 1980s, DC Comics published Wasteland, an 18-issue horror anthology series that tapped into the darkly satirical sensibilities of writers John Ostrander and Del Close. With Bill Wray, David Lloyd, and Don Simpson among its primary artists, each issue delivered a standalone morality tale of comeuppance, often framed by the series' macabre, cigar-chomping narrator. The series earned a reputation for its bleak humor and willingness to feature literary adaptations—including a story credited to William Shakespeare—alongside original twisted fables. It remains a cult favorite for fans of mature, cynical horror from the pre-Vertigo DC era.
