About the series
Michael Turner's iconic visual style defined this early Image Comics series, which launched in 1996 and ran for 29 issues. Co-written by David Wohl, Brian Haberlin, and Turner himself, the story follows a New York detective bound to an ancient, sentient weapon that manifests as a supernatural armored gauntlet. Turner's dynamic, pin-up-inspired artwork, alongside Randy Green and Jason Pearson, made the series a flagship title for the publisher, blending dark fantasy with police procedural elements. It remains a key example of the mid-90s comic boom's focus on high-concept, visually-driven storytelling.
