About the series
Greg Pak, with historical consultant Rafael Medoff, and artists Carmine Di Giandomenico and Neal Adams crafted this five-issue Marvel miniseries from 2008–2009. It grounds the future Magneto, Max Eisenhardt, in a harrowing, human-scale origin story set against the Holocaust, following Max and his family—Magda, Edie, Erich, Jakob, and Ruth—through the rise of Nazi Germany. By stripping away superpowers, the series explores the real-world trauma that forges a survivor into a villain, offering a sobering, character-driven prelude to the X-Men mythos.
