Zippy Annual

From 2000 to 2013, Fantagraphics released eleven oversized Zippy Annuals, each a year-in-review collection of Bill Griffith’s daily newspaper strip. Griffith, the sole writer and artist, curated these volumes to showcase the best of Zippy the Pinhead’s absurdist, pop-culture-obsessed commentary alongside his own self-deprecating surrogate, Griffy. More than a simple reprint series, the Annual format allowed Griffith to add new material, annotations, and thematic groupings, making each book a definitive artifact of his singular, surreal vision.
