Art Saaf
Art Saaf was an American comic book artist whose career spanned the Golden Age and beyond, best known for his clean, expressive linework on romance and adventure titles. Born Arthur Saaf on December 4, 1921, in New York City, he entered the industry in the early 1940s, working for publishers like Fiction House and DC Comics. Saaf’s style—marked by strong figure drawing and clear storytelling—made him a reliable hand on series such as *Thrilling Comics*, *Rangers Comics*, and the romance staples *Girls' Love Stories* and *Young Romance*. He also contributed to *Supergirl* and *June*, often collaborating with writers and editors who valued his versatility. Though he never achieved the fame of some peers, Saaf’s work appeared on over 130 issues, and he later moved into television animation. He died on April 21, 2007, at age 85. While not a major award winner, his steady output across genres helped define the look of mid-century comics, and his legacy endures among collectors of romance and adventure books.
