Bernie Jaye
Bernie Jaye (born Bernadette Jakowski) is a British writer, editor, colorist, and letterer best known for her tenure as editor-in-chief of Marvel UK in the early 1980s and for co-creating the character Dark Angel. Born in the United Kingdom, she entered the industry as an editor, taking the helm at Marvel UK in spring 1980 after Dez Skinn. During her leadership, she oversaw the relaunch of *Marvel Superheroes*, which featured a new *Captain Britain* strip by Dave Thorpe and Alan Davis—later taken over by Alan Moore in one of his first major ongoing series. Jaye also launched *The Daredevils*, a monthly title that won the 1984 Eagle Award for Best New Title. After leaving Marvel UK in 1983, she freelanced as a colorist on *Nick Fury vs. S.H.I.E.L.D.* and *Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.* for Marvel Comics. Returning to British comics in the early 1990s, she lettered for Fleetway’s *Revolver* and *Crisis*. In 1992, she reunited with Marvel UK to co-create *Dark Angel* with artist Geoff Senior, writing the *Hell’s Angel/Dark Angel* title through 1993. She also co-created *Mother Earth* with Paul Neary and Cliff Robinson for *2000 AD*. Jaye has not worked in comics since the mid-1990s.
