Cully Hamner

Cully Hamner (born March 7, 1969) is an American comic book artist best known for his clean, dynamic storytelling and his co-creation of the 2003 graphic novel *Red*, later adapted into a hit film series. He also co-created the character Jaime Reyes, the third Blue Beetle, and designed the New 52 Batsuit, a defining visual for DC Comics’ modern era.

Hamner’s path into comics began in the early 1990s, with his first major work on *Green Lantern: Mosaic* for DC. He quickly became a sought-after artist, contributing to titles like *Black Lightning: Year One*, *Detective Comics*, and *The Blue Beetle*. His style—marked by expressive faces, clear action, and a grounded sense of drama—made him a natural fit for both superhero epics and character-driven stories. Key collaborators include writer John Rogers on *Blue Beetle* and artist/co-creator Warren Ellis on *Red*.

Beyond his creator-owned work, Hamner has been a reliable hand on series such as *Firearm*, *Batman and the Signal*, and *The Shade*. He has worked as an artist, colorist, inker, and writer across 112 issues from 1992 to 2024. While he has not received major industry awards, his influence is felt in the lasting popularity of *Red* and his design contributions to DC’s visual identity. Hamner continues to work in comics, maintaining a steady presence in the industry.
