Fran Matera was an American comic strip and comic book artist, best known for his long run on the adventure strip *Steve Roper and Mike Nomad* for King Features Syndicate from 1984 to 2004. Born Francis A. Matera on December 9, 1924, he began his career in the early 1940s, with credits spanning from 1943 to 1994. He worked extensively in comic books, notably for Charlton Comics, contributing to titles such as *Doll Man*, *John Wayne Adventure Comics*, and *The Legend of Bruce Lee*. His style, influenced by illustrators like Hal Foster, Alex Raymond, and Milton Caniff, was well-suited to both newspaper strips and comic book adventure tales. Matera also lettered and inked for *Treasure Chest of Fun and Fact* and the Swedish publication *Seriemagasinet*. He died on March 15, 2012. While not a major award winner, his steady, professional work across decades made him a reliable craftsman in the industry, particularly for his later stewardship of the *Steve Roper* strip.
