Fred Carrillo
Fred Carrillo, born Wilfredo Limbana Carrillo in 1926 in the Philippines, was a versatile comic book artist whose career spanned from the early 1970s into the 2010s. He is best known for his atmospheric work on DC Comics' horror and mystery titles, particularly *Weird War Tales*, *The Phantom Stranger*, and *The Unexpected*, where his moody linework and expressive storytelling brought eerie tales to life. Carrillo entered comics through the Filipino wave of talent that found success in the American market, often collaborating with writers like Gerry Conway and Len Wein. His credits also include adaptations such as *Oliver Twist* and *Jurassic Park Adventures*, as well as a Conan album. A skilled inker and letterer, he contributed to 59 issues across multiple publishers. Carrillo died in August 2005, leaving behind a body of work that exemplifies the international reach of 1970s genre comics. While major awards are not recorded in his catalog, his steady presence in DC's supernatural line remains a touchstone for fans of that era.
