Hope Larson
1982–
Hope Larson was born on September 17, 1982, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She is an American illustrator and cartoonist whose work spans writing, art, coloring, inking, and lettering across nearly fifty comic book issues from 2005 to 2020. Larson is best known for her graphic novel *Chiggers*, the fantasy adaptation *Die Zeitfalte* (a German-language take on *A Wrinkle in Time*), and the ongoing series *Goldie Vance*. She also wrote and drew the intimate, slice-of-life series *Local* and contributed to *Batgirl* and *Penny Dora and the Wishing Box*. Her style blends clean, expressive linework with soft, atmospheric color, often focusing on coming-of-age stories and quiet character moments. Larson frequently collaborates with writers and artists such as Brittney Williams (on *Goldie Vance*) and Brian Wood (on *Local*). She co-created the character Goldie Vance with writer Kelly Thompson. Later in her career, Larson expanded into teaching and mentoring young cartoonists. Her work has earned her multiple Eisner Award nominations and a place among the notable voices in 21st-century American comics.
