Jonathan Hickman is an American comic book writer and artist born in 1972, widely recognized for ambitious, architecture-scale storytelling across both creator-owned projects and major Marvel franchises. He broke into the industry with *The Nightly News* and went on to build a substantial body of work spanning over 400 credited issues between 2006 and 2026.
At Marvel, Hickman undertook extended runs on *Fantastic Four*, launching the companion title *FF* in the process, before moving on to *The Avengers* and *New Avengers*. He also helmed two major crossover events — *Infinity* and *Secret Wars* — each serving as the organizational backbone for company-wide storylines. During the *Infinity* arc, he co-created the Black Order, a villainous ensemble whose members — Ebony Maw, Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, Black Dwarf, and Supergiant — have since become fixtures in Marvel media beyond comics.
From 2019 to 2021, Hickman served as the primary architect of the Krakoan Age, relaunching Marvel's X-Men line through the paired miniseries *House of X* and *Powers of X*. He returned to reshape Marvel's continuity again in 2023, writing *Ultimate Invasion* to reboot the Ultimate Universe, followed by an ongoing *Ultimate Spider-Man* series beginning in 2024.
His creator-owned work — particularly *East of West* and *The Manhattan Projects* — showcases the intricate world-building and densely layered narrative structures that define his signature approach.
