Max Douglas
Max Douglas, better known by his pen name Salgood Sam, was born on September 15, 1970, in Canada. He adopted the reversed-spelling pseudonym around 1996, a moniker that would become synonymous with his distinctive visual storytelling. Douglas entered the comics industry in the early 1990s, building a reputation as a skilled artist and inker whose work spanned a variety of genres. He is best remembered for his contributions to horror and supernatural titles, including *Saint Sinner*, *Clive Barker's Night Breed*, *Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme*, and *Midnight Sons Unlimited*. His art also appeared in *Nature of the Beast* and *Sea of Red*. Over a roughly fifteen-year period of active credits, from 1991 to 2005, he worked on eleven issues across these series, often collaborating with writers who shared his taste for dark, atmospheric narratives. Douglas’s style blended detailed linework with moody shading, making him a fitting visual partner for the eerie worlds he helped bring to life. Though his published output slowed after the mid-2000s, his work remains of interest to collectors and fans of 1990s horror comics. His legacy endures as a versatile artist who left his mark on the darker corners of mainstream superhero and licensed comics.
