Steve Mattsson
1959–
Steve Mattsson, born December 16, 1959, is an American comic book writer and colorist whose career spans nearly four decades. He entered the industry in the mid-1980s through work on Dark Horse Comics' *Boris the Bear*, establishing himself during a fertile period for independent publishing.
Over the years Mattsson built a substantial body of work across both major publishers, accumulating credits as colorist and writer on nearly 200 issues between 1986 and 2024. His coloring work touched several prominent DC titles, including *Green Lantern*, *Green Lantern: Mosaic*, and *The Darkstars*, where his contributions helped define the visual tone of the publisher's cosmic corner during the 1990s. At Marvel he brought consistent color work to *Untold Tales of Spider-Man*.
His most prominent creative role came as co-creator, co-writer, and writer of DC's *Superboy and the Ravers*, a series that placed a young cast of characters in an outer-space rave setting and reflected the experimental energy of mid-1990s superhero comics. The series remains his most distinctive contribution to the medium.
Mattsson's career represents the kind of dependable, craft-focused professionalism that keeps serialized comics functioning — a colorist and writer equally comfortable working within shared universes and helping to build new ones.
