First appearance of Batwing (James 'Jimmy' Santini) — a boy mutated by illegally dumped toxic chemicals in Carlsbad Caverns National Park, who fled to New York City and survived by scavenging food from rooftops.
First chronological appearance of NYC Councilman Randolph Cherryh, who places a bounty on Batwing, inadvertently drawing Spider-Man into the conflict.
The story is explicitly set between Amazing Spider-Man #6 and #7, slotting neatly into established Marvel Silver Age continuity.
Creative team: written by Kurt Busiek, penciled by Pat Olliffe, inked by Al Vey and Pam Eklund, colored by Steve Mattsson, lettered by Richard Starkings/Comicraft, edited by Bob Budiansky.
