Β· July 1949

This document collection comprises U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations reports investigating a reported UFO sighting near New Orleans, Louisiana, on July 7, 1949. Multiple witnesses, including an insurance salesman with a bird-watching hobby, reported observing a single unidentified object approximately 2,500 feet in altitude traveling northward at standard aircraft speed. The object was described as bright silver, cigar or oblong-shaped, roughly the size of a large transport plane, with no visible trail or sound. Observers noted the object's shape remained constant despite bright appearance, initially suggesting sun reflection on a conventional aircraft, but the persistence of the shape led investigators to question conventional explanations. The object disappeared gradually behind trees after 3-5 minutes of observation. Official investigative files were closed following interviews with Federal Bureau of Investigation and local police with negative results.
