This issue features four novelettes and four short stories across Western genres. Allan Vaughan Elston's "The Road to Sandoval" opens with Saguache Joe, robbed of his horse and gun at a water tank, riding a boxcar full of cottonseed-oil cake south toward New Mexico. The railroad agent recruits him to deliver a message about the delayed shipment to the Half Circle H ranch. At a restaurant, Joe encounters the antagonistic Riff, who shot Bert Hifeldt of the Half Circle H and now menaces Joe. Frank Bonham's "Rodeo Killer" (Ch. 7) involves Hugh Talbot and Lass Towne relying on luck and skill. Harry Sinclair Drago's "Sunrise on the Cimarron" centers on a young outlaw's romance and tragic lesson. John Colohan's "Six-Gun Serenade" depicts a feud transforming into love. Short stories include Ernest Haycox's "Skirmish at Dry Fork" (competing claims over a woman), Eugene Cunningham's "Bar-Nothing's Happy Birthday," and works by S. Omar Barker and Bill Gulick. Harold Preece contributes "The Princess Lassoed the Pirate," a fact-fiction piece about a buccaneer and an Asian princess's daughter.
