"Mo-mou, Be Good!" by W.C. MacAllister

This light military romance comedy follows two Army corporals, Arly and Johnny, on leave in Hawaii. While at a recreation center in Waikiki, Arly spots and asks out Mo-mou, a dark-haired, Portuguese-Hawaiian woman. After missing their curfew, the pair ends up spending the night at her apartment. The story continues with Arly disappearing into a crap game, leaving Johnny to entertain Mo-mou. During an intimate evening at her place, Johnny is maneuvered into what amounts to an engagement and reluctantly surrenders his large diamond ring. When Arly discovers the ring on Mo-mou's finger, tensions escalate—then a massive Portuguese man, apparently claiming ownership of Mo-mou, arrives with a knife, threatening the soldiers. Mo-mou intervenes in her native language, distracting her aggressor long enough for Arly to take action. The story blends comedic romantic entanglement with sudden violent confrontation in an exotic Hawaiian setting.
