Beadle's Half Dime Library, No. 121

This 1879 Beadle and Adams pulp serial features "Cinnamon Chip, the Girl Sport; or, The Golden Idol of Mt. Rosa," by Edward L. Wheeler, author of the Deadwood Dick novels. The story is set in Bummer's Bend, a rough mining town in Northern Arizona, established after gold discoveries attract a stampede of miners.

The narrative establishes the frontier setting with its mining operations, horse-racing culture, and tensions with nearby Indian bands led by Apache chief White Face. The arrival of a mysterious young woman dressed in male attire—Cinnamon Chip herself—immediately attracts attention, along with a well-dressed young horseman and his companions (a Captain Mayburn, a Chinaman, and others). Dandy Dell Guthrie, the town's corrupt "mayor," and his half-breed associate Lynx observe these strangers with suspicion and interest, particularly regarding an upcoming high-stakes horse race involving General Howard's daughter Evelyn.
