La sombra enlutada by Ada Coretti is a psychological horror narrative following young artist Harry Ritter in a small southern English town. Struggling financially to fund an art exhibition, Ritter lives in a garret and paints nudes of Natalie, his model and casual companion. After the landlady collects rent, leaving him nearly destitute, Ritter encounters a disturbing scene in the local cemetery: a tall man in black, Jack Bannard, coerces Natalie to kneel before his family mausoleum, demanding she pledge submission and children to his lineage. Terrified, Natalie flees to Ritter's protection. She reveals Bannard has demanded marriage within eleven days, threatening to kill her if she refuses. Jack's pale, black-clad madrastra visits Ritter's studio, explaining Jack was recently released from psychiatric care after years of institutionalization, diagnosed as non-dangerous but occasionally prone to frightening episodes. The narrative traces Natalie's entrapment within the Bannard family's dark influence and mounting psychological terror.
