Nebula Science Fiction, Issue Number Fourteen (November 1955)

This British magazine contains a novel, novelette, and short stories. James White's novelette "Pushover Planet" presents an alien invasion from the invaders' perspective: the Lednang Fleet Commander Crellegnan dur Shan arrives to colonize Earth, destroys eight cities as a show of force, and captures a human geologist named Murchison to serve as intermediary. The aliens possess vastly superior technology and weapons; the Commander demands the humans provide radioactive materials, chemicals, food, and labor to build shelters while threatening extermination if atomic piles are modified. Kenneth Bulmer's novel "Sunset" is described by editor Peter Hamilton as depicting a credible future society with human characters in a grimly logical plot. Sydney J. Bounds, E.C. Tubb, and Eric Frank Russell contribute short stories. The issue also includes scientific articles on hypnotism and other topics, plus book reviews and letters from international readers.
