Nebula Science Fiction #15

This issue of Nebula (Number 15, January 1956), a British bi-monthly science fiction magazine edited by Peter Hamilton, contains the following fiction: Bob Shaw's novelette "Sounds in the Dawn," a sequel to his earlier story "Aspect"; James White's "In Loving Memory" and David Irish's "Birthday Star"; Robert Heinlein's classic reprinted story "Green Hills of Earth"; Christopher Lyster's "The Artifact"; and E.C. Tubb's novel "Investment," about a planet's colonization. Shaw's story centers on a starship crew—Jennings, Keene, and Davies—who destroyed a mountain on an alien world and now face capture. After being transmuted aboard an alien hangar, they discover their food supplies removed and receive a cryptic message on a glowing metal panel ordering them to "React," with an enigmatic explanation that they were captured for their fear rather than the damage caused. The crew must puzzle out what this bizarre test requires.
