# Young Wild West at Boiling Butte — or — Hop Wah and the Highbinders

This pulp western serial, written by "An Old Scout," follows Young Wild West, a wealthy mine owner and renowned marksman known as the "Champion Deadshot of the West." The story begins when Con Carney, an Irish prospector seeking fortune in Nevada, encounters Hop Wah, Young Wild West's Chinese servant, who shoots a snake blocking their path. After a brief scuffle, the two become friendly over whisky. Hop Wah brings Carney to Young Wild West's camp near Boiling Butte, where he meets the hero and his companions: the scout Cheyenne Charlie, Jim Dart, and three women—Arietta Murdock (Young Wild West's sweetheart), Eloise Gardner, and Anna (Cheyenne Charlie's wife). The group is traveling to Boiling Butte to investigate reports of rich gold ore deposits. Hop Wah, though reliable, secretly drinks whisky against Young Wild West's rules. The narrative establishes Carney's welcome into this adventuring party.
