A Very British Affair: The Best of Classic Romance Comics #[nn]
Curated by David Roach, this Rebellion anthology gathers the finest stories from British romance comics into one handsome volume — a genuine treat for anyone drawn to the heart-on-sleeve drama of that era. The cover, illustrated by Ángel Badía Camps, sets the mood perfectly: a stylishly dressed young woman in a vivid pink coat pauses before an outdoor art exhibition, startled to discover that every painting on display appears to be a portrait of her — her thought bubble reading, "Why, that's me! Every one of those paintings is of me!" It's a wonderfully evocative image, equal parts glamour and intrigue, that captures exactly the kind of charged, emotionally rich storytelling waiting inside.

When Raven gets lost in a Welsh valley, he comes upon a lake where he hears a girl singing. He thinks she is pretty, but a little nutty. He gets a room for the night at a nearby cottage and asks about the girl. The lady there tells him she is a prize-winning poet studying for her B.A. degree. Raven finds himself staying on and asks Eleanor about the song she was singing. Legend says if a girl sings to the lake, her true love will appear to her. Then Eleanor forces the issue when she stages an incident at the lake where Raven 'saves' her from drowning, although she is a swimming champion.
