“Baby Come Back”

"Baby Come Back" is a hauntingly lyrical tale from Valentine #31 (August 1968), featuring José Bielsa’s evocative art and inks in a story that lingers in the misty hills of a Welsh valley. When Raven stumbles upon a lake where a girl named Eleanor sings a mysterious song, he’s drawn into a quiet, dreamlike encounter that blurs the line between romance and legend. As the night deepens and the local lore about the lake’s power unfolds, the quiet charm of the countryside gives way to something more unsettling—without ever revealing where it leads.

When Raven gets lost in a Welsh valley, he comes upon a lake where he hears a girl singing. He thinks she is pretty, but a little nutty. He gets a room for the night at a nearby cottage and asks about the girl. The lady there tells him she is a prize-winning poet studying for her B.A. degree. Raven finds himself staying on and asks Eleanor about the song she was singing. Legend says if a girl sings to the lake, her true love will appear to her. Then Eleanor forces the issue when she stages a incident at the lake where Raven 'saves' her from drowning, although she is a swimming champion.
