When Bud Abbott lands Lou Costello a job as a porter at the opera house, a mix-up leads Lou to take the stage as the tenor Luigi Luigi at the opening of "Il Maesterschlager"—complete with tights, a spear, and a wig that nobody expected. As Abbott scrambles to find the real Luigi Luigi and stop the impending disaster, Lou somehow charms the audience and even impresses the notoriously stern music critic Virgil Thump.
