"September Squall," a stormy tale of dangerous love, follows Flotsam and Corky Steve as they are unaware of Laura's untimely actions on the water. When Corky witnesses Laura's plunge into the sea, he attempts to rescue her, leading to a confrontation where she reveals she took advantage of her position during government service to obtain information about silver fields and establish a mining empire. Corky's father, Red, sacrifices himself to protect his son from Laura's schemes, ultimately leading to Laura's capture and Corky's reunion with Tracey. The issue also includes "The Black Lily," in which a beautiful spy uses her charm and a mysterious gift to manipulate a count into betraying the alliance between England and France.
