"The Devil's Disciple" tells of a man born in Madrid in 1542 who has lived for 400 years, cursed to walk the earth in eternal torment as punishment for his sins, visited by the ghost of Father Ramón who condemns him to know neither rest nor peace. Another story features Professor Kendall and Dr. Warren developing a robot controlled by a serum injection, which goes haywire when a new serum formula causes it to become dangerous and half-human, leading to a climactic confrontation where the creature is destroyed by police. The issue also includes "The Devil's Disciple," in which a character reflects on a mysterious diary belonging to Hester Prince, a great-great-great-aunt who feared some unseen evil.
When George Tellier inherits a remote castle in the Pyrenees and invites his mentor Professor Gollet for a visit, their quiet mountain retreat is shattered when they rescue a mysterious woman, Jeanne Calleau, from a cliff—impossibly unharmed despite her devastating fall. As George and Jeanne grow closer, dark forces emerge from the shadows: jealousy, hidden identities, and something far more sinister than either of them could have imagined prowls the misty peaks by night. "Bat by Night" weaves romance and horror into a tale where the line between supernatural legend and terrible reality becomes dangerously thin.
When a mysterious stranger named Juan Delbourgo appears in Professor Otis Kendall's locked office claiming to be a dead man cursed to walk the earth for four centuries, the occult director finds himself drawn into a terrifying game of impossible proof and desperate bargaining. Kendall discovers that Delbourgo was born in Madrid in 1549 and is bound by a dark curse that compels him toward violence—and the professor realizes he may be the cursed man's next victim. As Kendall races to find a way to break the curse before it claims him, he discovers that Delbourgo's gaze has fallen on someone far more precious to him than his own life.
On the island of Bali, local legend tells of phantoms that gather in cemeteries to face judgment by Durga, the goddess of the dead—and those who have sinned are transformed into fearsome demons. From the Buta, who brings disaster at sundown, to the flickering Leyaks that lure travelers to their doom, to Rangda herself, the terrible Queen of the Evil Ones whose curse unleashes earthquakes and epidemics, the Balinese people live in terror of these supernatural forces. Each year they hold a festival, hoping the noise and chaos will drive away the demons that plague their island.
When Professor Bill Sauvage leads a university expedition into the Four Corners country searching for the legendary lost city of Torreans, he's inexplicably drawn to guide the party through terrain he's never seen—guided only by a strange, dreamlike certainty that he knows the way. As the group approaches the hidden valley, supernatural forces emerge to guard the ancient site, and Sauvage finds himself caught between two worlds, compelled by a mystery that spans centuries.
When a young woman inherits her grandmother's house, she discovers a diary belonging to a distant ancestor named Hester Prince—a woman who, 260 years earlier, made a desperate bargain with Satan himself after her heart was shattered by betrayal. As Judy reads Hester's account, she finds herself living through an eerily identical tragedy on the same calendar date, complete with a faithless fiancé and mounting despair. Now Judy must reckon with forces that seem determined to push her toward the very same dark pact that consumed her ancestor.
