Agrippine #5
Claire Bretécher's fifth Agrippine album, *Agrippine et l'ancêtre*, brings a wonderfully absurd generational clash to the page. The cover says it all: a lanky, world-weary teenager leans awkwardly over a plush blue armchair occupied by a tiny, wild-haired elderly woman who looks absolutely unbothered — even faintly smug. Bretécher's loose, expressive line-work captures both characters' personalities in an instant, promising the sharp domestic comedy and wry social observation that make this 1998 volume such a treat.
