Jul 1969 · DC · 0.15 USD
“The Explanation!”

In "The Explanation!", a wounded Aquaman is pulled from the wreckage by Mera, who recounts her harrowing escape from Atlantean exiles working for a crime syndicate—her cell opening mysteriously during Aquaman’s earlier clash with the syndicate’s forces. As Mera tends to her hero, a separate struggle brews beneath the sea, where Tula discovers a hidden resistance movement plotting against the tyrannical Narkran. Written by Steve Skeates and brought to life with dynamic art by Jim Aparo and Frank Giacoia, this 1969 DC classic features a striking cover by Nick Cardy, capturing the drama in bold, expressive detail.

An injured Aquaman is found by Mera. Mera recounts how she was kidnapped by exiled Atlanteans working for the crime syndicate as part of a plan to capture a shipment of gold. She escaped from her captors when her cell opened unexpectedly due to the actions of Aquaman when he fought the crime syndicate, and Mera rescues Aquaman when he was caught in an explosion. Meanwhile, back in Atlantis, Tula finds a group of rebels who want to overthrow Narkran.
