Nick Cardy
1920–2013
Nicholas Viscardi was born on October 20, 1920, and built a career substantial enough to earn a place in the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame, inducted in 2005. Working professionally under the name Nick Cardy — and occasionally Nick Cardi — he devoted the bulk of his creative life to DC Comics, where he became closely identified with two properties in particular: Aquaman and the Teen Titans. His tenure on those titles helped define their visual identities during key periods of their publication history.
Cardy's active years in comics stretched from 1940 through an impressive span of decades, during which he accumulated credits as artist, inker, and writer across hundreds of issues. Beyond the American market, his work reached international audiences through titles such as the Spanish-language anthology series *Relatos Fabulosos* and *Historias Fantásticas*, as well as Arabic-language Superman publications, reflecting the broad distribution his art achieved over the years.
He passed away on November 3, 2013, leaving behind a body of work that demonstrated consistent craftsmanship across genres and formats. His Eisner Hall of Fame recognition stands as the field's clearest acknowledgment that his contributions shaped mainstream American comics in lasting ways.
