Aquaman Rebirth #4
Aquaman Rebirth #4 (2018) features the story "Crownspire," continuing the underwater adventures of Aquaman and his allies. The issue is written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Sarah Grassart, with art by Max Fiumara, inks by Max Fiumara, colors by Dave Stewart, and letters by Makma. The cover, illustrated by Joshua Middleton, depicts a striking scene from the story.
In the future, the Atlantean city of Crownspire rises above the sea, a towering testament to a civilization that has long since parted from the surface world. When an uprising erupts—fueled by rebels and surface dwellers—heroes like Superman, Wonder Woman, and Hal Jordan reunite with King Arthur, Queen Mera, and their son Tom to defend their home. But as the conflict unfolds, a shocking truth emerges: the world they know may be a dream, and the only one who sees it is Murk, the man believed dead, who now believes the only way to free Aquaman is to destroy the child at the heart of the illusion.
In "Détrôné chapitre 1," Aquaman takes direct action against Drift soldiers laying siege to the lower Trides, rallying allies as tensions rise across the underwater city. With Vulko and the Undercurrent strategizing behind the scenes, Ondine’s unexpected suggestion to unite with the gangs of the Ninth Tride sets a dangerous course—one that forces Aquaman to confront King Shark, a powerful gang leader with his own agenda. Meanwhile, Dolphin stumbles upon a clue that could shift the balance of power, deepening the mystery beneath the surface.
In "Détrôné chapitre 2," Arthur races against time to save Mera, who lies gravely ill after breaking through the Crown of Thorns to reach Atlantis. With only ten hours to reach the surface before she suffocates, Reverend Mother Cetea reveals a shocking truth: Mera has been chosen to become Atlantis’s new queen once the tyrant Rath falls. As their love is tested by duty, Arthur rallies the rebels in a desperate bid to dismantle the Crown of Thorns and give Mera a chance to survive.
In "Détrôné conclusion," Arthur leads the Undercurrent in a daring assault on the Silent School, aiming to dismantle the power source sustaining the Crown of Thorns and finally free Atlantis from isolation. With Mera gravely injured and the fate of the underwater kingdom hanging in the balance, Arthur must navigate the treacherous mission and find a way to get her to the surface before it's too late.
