“Introductory Page”

In Archie Comics #8 (1944), a classic mix of teenage mischief and miscommunication kicks off with "Introductory Page," a lighthearted tale written by Ed Goggin and illustrated by Harry Sahle, with inks by Janice Valleau. On a fateful Friday the 13th, Archie’s day takes a turn when he’s punched by Reggie, leading to a chain of misunderstandings that lands him in the hospital—thanks to a mix-up involving a toothache and a mistaken bed. The cover, also by Harry Sahle, captures the chaos with his signature style.

On Friday the 13th, Archie gets punched by Reggie and goes home to clean up. Meanwhile, Jughead tells Miss Grundy Archie is absent due to a toothache. When Miss Grundy tells Mrs. Andrews, Mrs. Andrews mistakes Archie's bruise for the toothache. Archie ends up at the hospital and nearly goes into surgery when he lies down in another patient's bed.
