Archie's Double Digest Magazine #37
In "Worldly Whimsey," the Pussycats face a mystery when Valerie suddenly departs for a supposed family emergency, leaving her spot in the band to Melody and Alexandra. With suspicions rising over her mysterious absence, Josie and the girls begin to piece together clues—especially when they discover the club they're set to perform at is tied to a past romantic misstep of Valerie’s. Written by Frank Doyle and brought to life with vibrant energy by Stan Goldberg, Jon D'Agostino, Barry Grossman, and Bill Yoshida, this 1988 Double Digest story captures the band’s camaraderie and playful intrigue. The cover by Dan DeCarlo and Jim DeCarlo perfectly captures the lighthearted yet curious tone of the tale.

Valerie leaves town before an important gig, claiming that she needs to visit a sick grandmother. Josie, Melody and Alexandra (who replaces Valerie in the band while she's away) don't buy the old "sick grandmother" cliché, and assume that Valerie is making some kind of tragic sacrifice to help the Pussycats. And they think they know what it is when they realize that the club they're playing at is owned by someone who unsuccessfully hit on Val.
