Betty and Veronica Comics Digest Magazine #24
In "Fools and Kings," Archie is stunned to see a bruise on Veronica's neck—only to learn it came from a passionate moment with Reggie. When Betty reveals she got a similar mark from a champagne cork, Archie’s relief turns into a playful moment of his own, leaving Betty with a new bruise and a smile. A classic mix of mistaken identity and teenage romance, this 1987 issue captures the charm of the Archie universe with a wink and a smile, written by Frank Doyle and illustrated by Dan DeCarlo Jr., with cover art by Dan DeCarlo.

Archie sees a bruise on Veronica's neck. She says she got it from Reggie last night. Shocked, Archie yells at her. She tells Archie that he's a gentle kisser and that Reggie is a nice change of pace. Archie runs off and into Betty. She tells him that a champagne cork hit her in the neck as Smithers tried to open it last night. Ecstatic, Archie kisses Betty, giving her a bruise! Veronica asks her about the hickey, but Betty just says, “Would you believe I got hit by a champagne cork?"
