Betty and Veronica Comics Digest Magazine #9
In "Problems," Betty and Veronica go head-to-head in a spirited rivalry for captain of the cheerleading squad, turning a simple tryout into a showdown of confidence and charm. With Mr. Lodge’s surprising nostalgia for boys on the squad and a few awkwardly performed cheers, the girls’ friendship is tested—especially when Betty claims victory, leaving Archie and Jughead wondering what happened to Veronica, who skipped out due to a little rain and a stubborn fear of ruining her outfit. Written and illustrated by Bob Bolling, with inks by Rudy Lapick, colors by Barry Grossman, and letters by Bill Yoshida, the issue captures the classic Archie charm, all framed by Dan DeCarlo’s iconic cover art.

Tryouts for the cheerleading squad have been announced. Betty and Veronica are both going to try for captain of the squad. Mr. Lodge mentions that boys were on the cheerleading squad when he was young. At the girls' request, Mr. Lodge shows them some cheers (and almost hurts himself in the process). After the tryouts, Betty catches up with Archie and Jughead and announces that she's the captain. When Archie asks where Veronica is, Betty tells them that she didn't try out because it was raining and she didn't want to get her outfit wet.
