Boris Karloff Tales of Mystery Archives #1
"Gleam of Evil" from Boris Karloff Tales of Mystery Archives #1 (2009, Dark Horse) delivers a chilling, atmospheric tale rooted in primal fear and ancient magic. When Zilma is attacked by a shadowy creature and her tribe turns against her lover Pablo, the two flee only to face the witch doctor’s voodoo curse. With art by Mike Sekowsky and inks by Mike Peppe, the story unfolds with a haunting sense of dread, leaving the line between supernatural force and human vengeance dangerously blurred.

After the witch doctor stirs up evil spirits Zilma is attacked by a monster that no one gets a good look at. Pablo is in love with Zilma and wants to protect her. The witch doctor doesn’t like Pablo, and tells her tribe that she has seen him bring illness to them in her dreams. Pablo and Zilma run away, but the witch doctor uses voodoo to make Zilma sick. Pablo throws a rock and asks for it to find the witch doctor and kill her. The witch doctor dies when she falls off of a cliff. No one knows if the stone knocked her off or if the monster did. Pablo becomes the new witch doctor of the tribe.
