In the main story, young pilot Johnny rescues a boy and girl from kidnappers on a highway, then pursues them in his plane to a spies' hangout, executing a daring rescue landing in the suspects' driveway. A second story follows Bruce Corbet investigating his brother's death, which leads him to Dr. Larbins' mansion where he discovers a dual-identity villain called "The Grenade" and must take quick action. A third story depicts Rock Hastens and King Sarius battling against Morono, whose subjects attempt to steal their brain energy through a mind-control device connected to a rocket ship, but the heroes manage to destroy the thought reservoir and escape.
When a storekeeper is murdered over his refusal to pay for worthless "protection slips," the Red Rocket springs into action to dismantle the racket. Working with his partner Punchy, Rod Page uses a single clue—a discarded glove—to track down the operation's members and orchestrate a clever trap that brings the entire gang to justice. It's a solid Golden Age takedown of small-time extortion, with plenty of action and a hero who thinks as fast as he fights.
Mrs. Cornelius Tanner arranges to have her husband's body cremated following a supposed automobile accident, but her scheme to conceal a darker crime unravels when the man who arrives at her home that night proves to be far more than a ghost. This Golden Age mystery packs a genuine twist—the kind that demands a reread—as the story pivots from supernatural dread to a desperate struggle with deadly consequences.
Captain Flight Comics #5 delivers "Flight Fun," a one-page humor piece by Lyne that balances two quick laughs—a domestic mix-up and a kid's oddball question—before diving into the real meat of the issue with the interplanetary adventure "Rock Raymond." When an American pilot on Saturn learns that the benevolent King Satius has gone missing, he takes it upon himself to investigate, only to uncover a sinister plot on Pluto involving a race of beings who harvest brains to sustain their own intellect. It's a wild sci-fi rescue mission that pits our hero against a mad king and his enslaved subjects in a bid to save a monarch and restore order across the planets.
