Cave Kids #1
"Small Stuff" kicks off in Cave Kids #1 (1963), a charming 12-cent adventure where the gang’s geology field trip takes an unexpected turn when a bird steals a rare rock and flies off with it. Written by Del Connell, the story follows Small Stuff as he tracks the bird to its nest, uncovering a hidden collection of gems and helping a baby bird hatch—only to find his day ends with a stalled car and a long push home. The cover by an unknown artist captures the whimsy of the moment, perfectly framing the small hero in a big, rocky world.

The Cave Kids go on a field trip looking for rare rocks. While they are looking a bird picks up a rare rock and carries it to his nest. Small Stuff tries to follow him but he falls down the hill. The bird catches him and carries him to his nest, where he has an egg and many rare rocks that he has collected. Small Stuff knows that a bird leaves its nest once the baby is hatched so he helps the egg hatch and the bird and the baby fly away. Small Stuff can now take all of the rare rocks but his day is ruined when the car is too heavy for the driver and he and his friends have to push it home.
