The Marvel Chamber of Chills series (1972–1976) was conceived by editor-in-chief Roy Thomas as one of four staggered anthology launches — alongside Journey into Mystery vol. 2, Supernatural Thrillers, and Worlds Unknown — intended to give Marvel's horror line greater thematic coherence than the earlier Chamber of Darkness and Tower of Shadows titles had achieved. The series ran new material through issue #4, then transitioned to an all-reprint format by issue #8; by issue #19, under editor Marv Wolfman, the book was drawing entirely on late-1950s and early-1960s Atlas-era science fiction stories. The cover of #19 was produced by Ron Wilson with inking by John Tartaglione, Mike Esposito, and Irv Watanabe, and the indicia credits reprints to Hercules Publishing Corp. and Atlas Magazine, Inc.
