“Un amour sans retour!”

In "Un amour sans retour!", Régine's quiet love for the painter Max clashes with her duty to her soldier fiancé Guy, who returns wounded and dependent on an artificial foot. When she chooses to marry Guy to spare his feelings, Max, heartbroken, makes a reckless vow at a bar—marrying the next woman to walk through the door. Cécile, a woman with her own motives, steps forward and becomes both his bride and muse, posing for the paintings that earn him acclaim at the Paris Academy of Fine Arts. A poignant tale of love, sacrifice, and chance, drawn in the distinctive style of the era, with typeset lettering and a cover by the artist of the series.

Régine had fallen in love with Max, a painter, and planned to tell her soldier fiance when he returned. However, when she saw that Guy had been injured and required an artificial foot, she didn't have the heart to tell him she loved someone else so she married him. Distraught over losing Régine, Max announces to his friends at a bar that he will marry the next girl who comes through the door. Cécile accepts his proposal after requesting money which she gives to her brother. Cécile becomes a frequent model of his paintings for which he is awarded a prize at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris.
