Combat Kelly #2
In "Lonely Are the Brave!", Combat Kelly and his Deadly Dozen stage a daring raid on a German concentration camp, aided by three Native American allies whose sacrifice leaves a lasting mark. Written by Gary Friedrich and illustrated by Dick Ayers, with inks by M. Esposito and letters by Sam Rosen, this powerful 1972 story confronts the weight of heroism and duty, as Kelly pushes for recognition that politics may deny. The cover, by John Severin, captures the mission’s intensity with stark, evocative detail.

Combat Kelly and three members of his Deadly Dozen infiltrate a German concentration camp and manage to liberate several of the prisoners with the help of three Native Americans who die in the effort. Later, Kelly insists that three heroes should receive the Medal of Honor, but Captain Sawyer is unable to make that recommendation for political reasons.
