“The Cartoonist -- At Home!”

In "The Cartoonist -- At Home!", writer Bob Haney and artist Joe Kubert deliver a whimsical yet perilous tale as Jon ventures through the Ice King’s frozen domain to complete the Fourth Task of Thor. Facing traps like a two-headed bear, a waterfall descent, and snowmen made of ice, Jon climbs a towering "vine" of Rapunzel-like hair to reach a sleeping beauty holding a rose—only to discover the true test lies beyond the kiss. With cover art by Joe Kubert, this 1969 DC Special #5 offers a striking blend of fantasy and adventure, all rendered in Kubert’s signature detail and dynamism.

On his quest to complete the Twelve Tasks of Thor, Jon and the Mute Bard enter the Ice King's frozen domain. He must "awaken a rose"? He fights a two-headed bear, sails down a waterfall, fights snowmen - all traps of the frosty Ice King. In a high castle he climbs a "vine" of Rapunzel-like hair and finds a sleeping beauty holding a rose. A kiss breaks the trance. Jon is frozen by the Ice King, but turns a ruby into a burning ray. The Ice King falls. The Fourth Task of Thor is accomplished.
