Enginehead #2

Jul 2004 · DC · 2.50 USD; 3.85 CAD
“Second Gear”

In "Second Gear," Joe Kelly and Ted McKeever deliver a striking installment of Enginehead, where the titular antihero dismantles a human trafficking ring only to face a haunting moral dilemma: saving a boy from a truck leads him to foresee a cascade of tragic deaths. As Enginehead grapples with the weight of unintended consequences, he turns to his brother Sam—whose troubling behavior forces a drastic intervention—leading to a moment of unsettling clarity. The issue’s stark visuals and layered storytelling, rendered with precision by McKeever and colored by Chris Chuckry, make it a standout in the series.

Enginehead destroys the human trafficking operation of Arturo Lapaglia and severely injures his enforcer, the Electrocutioner. Later, when he saves a boy from being killed by a Sunshine Trucking truck, Enginehead can see how his actions will end up causing the suicide deaths of three truckers and the president of the company because the boy’s parents sue the company for damages. Confused, Enginehead seeks out his brother, Sam, who is being inappropriate with a little girl. Ford fixes Sam by removing parts of his anatomy.
